The ASAP Management Team

Susan Everingham – Director of Marketing
While finishing my Masters in International Business in a tiny hamlet on Mt. Fuji, Japan, I started to teach English to pay off student loans. Instead of returning to America to work for a corp., I stayed and started my own English academy.

I returned to the U.S. five years later to found another after school program called, The Homework Club. This one was to be a multi-site, on-campus, non-profit corporation.

ASAP was born out of need for The Homework Club. This Accountability Solution for our Afterschool Program saved our company. I found that our parents were more committed to our program and our students were nearly all reaching their academic goals.  The communication system was paying off in all sorts of wonderful ways. Staff was better trained and prepared for all their classes. Our Executive Director, Rex Boyd, could speak confidently and armed with information to all parents and school teachers. The need for expensive office space was no longer necessary. Our funding agencies were really impressed with our parent involvement and the California Department of Education Superintendent’s office knew us personally.  I liked that.

I have a new vision now that includes all of us in the education industry.  I’d like to see as many parents as possible receiving reports about their children so that home education is backing up the public school system.  I’d like to see our children become more responsible because of the honest feedback that is given by our educators to our parents.  I’d like to see PTA and other parent organizations better supported in nontraditional ways.

All of these dreams can come true using this simple tool. Don’t wait to get started.

This is just one parent reply from hundreds, but it illustrates why we work in this business and the importance of parent communication.

"Once again, thank you for helping my son.   He has gone through some very difficult personal challenges in his life.  You have no idea what a gift it was to see him after working with you.  He was beaming with pride that he finished all of his homework, and that you had told him that he had done a great job.  Its amazing how we can make such a big difference in someone's life, without even knowing it."

Chas Blackford – Director of Technology
After a long career as an innovative entrepreneur in the automotive sector, I changed horses in the mid-nineties and leveraged my art school education and technology interests to take part in the San Francisco dotcom boom. Surviving the bust, and learning many lessons on the practical applications of technology in the work place, I continue to assist numerous Bay Area companies in e-commerce and B2B Web initiatives. I also hold a number of patents for innovative processes used in various online applications.

ASAP came into existence as my son entered middle school. He was attending The Homework Club twice a week and giving me little feedback ("nope", "nuthin'", "not much" were the standard replies to my school-work inquiries). I began an extended dialogue with HWC founder Susan Everingham and her tutors. Numerous shared experiences, and our realization that better communication was the key to parent/student/tutor success, provided the impetus to create ASAPlink. My son talks to his tutors. Then, using ASAPlink, his tutors easily inform me on the status of his tutoring session (sometimes, I even know his homework status before he gets home). As a divorced parent, his mother is also kept in the loop via the ASAPlink Progress Reports, as are certain key teachers. This full-circle communication is essential to our family.
